The dual purpose multi fit cowl can either be fitted as a pot hanging cowl using the (PHS) support bracket or a suspension cowl using the inner straps and locking band. This allows the fitting of a liner to an existing roll top chimney pot.
Option 1 – as a Suspension Cowl
The liner is secured in place by passing the liner over the neck of the cowl fully with the inner support straps and locking band over the outside of the liner. The locking band is then tightened to hold the liner in place.
Lower the liner down the chimney until the terminal sits on the top of the pot then secure to the outside of the pot using the support straps and locking band.
Option 2 – as a Pot Hanging Cowl
When used as a pot hanging cowl the three inner support straps and locking band are not required; these can be cut off or left. The (PHS) support clamp is used in their place, this method allows for the cowl to be fitted last.
Take any slack out of the liner and place the bracket over the liner making sure that the buckle strap is on the underside allowing the legs of the bracket to rest on top of the chimney pot.
The liner is then cut 3 – 5 mm above the clamp, the neck of the cowl is then slid down the inside of the flue liner until it sits on top of the pot, then secure to the outside of the pot using the support straps and locking band.
Please ensure that a high temperature silicone or fire clay is used to seal between the neck of the cowl and the liner, this will ensure a gas tight seal this should be done at the time of inserting the neck of the cowl into the liner.
Please note: All installations should be carried out by a qualified engineer.
